Today's theme is peace, and I am mindful that much of the world does not experience it. Many nations are torn by war, and discord reigns in far too many families in places of outward peace and prosperity. I hope your Thanksgiving day was as peaceful as ours was here, and I pray that your lives are filled with peace in the days ahead.
We shall find peace. We shall hear angels, we shall see the sky sparkling with diamonds. Peace does not dwell in outward things, but within the soul; we may preserve it in the midst of the bitterest pain, if our will remains firm and submissive. Peace in this life springs from acquiescence, not in an exemption from suffering. I do not want the peace which passeth understanding, I want the understanding which bringeth peace. Peace is not a relationship of nations. It is a condition of mind brought about by a serenity of soul. Peace is not merely the absence of war. It is also a state of mind. Lasting peace can come only to peaceful people. Peace is not something you wish for; it's something you make, something you do, something you are, something you give away. Lord, make me an instrument of your peace; where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy.
