Quotes of the Day for 4 November 2004 - Will Rogers

Will Rogers was born on a ranch in the Cherokee Nation near Oologah, Oklahoma on this day in 1879, 125 years ago. He learned to throw a rope well enough to be a cowboy, and went on to be so good at it that he was paid to do rope tricks in vaudeville. But then he started telling jokes. Many of those relate to government or politics, as we've just survived the election I chose today's quotes from that part of the Rogers oeuvre.

Be thankful we're not getting all the government we're paying for.

I belong to no organized party. I am a Democrat.

On account of being a democracy and run by the people, we are the only nation in the world that has to keep a government four years, no matter what it does.

Politics has got so expensive that it takes lots of money to even get beat with.

The more you read and observe about this Politics thing you got to admit that each party is worse than the other.

I don't make jokes. I just watch the government and report the facts.
