He was educated at New York University, receiving his BA in 1949, and worked as a journalist for several newspapers and magazines in the '50s. He was a member of the New School for Social Research in the late '60s, then went on to write Future Shock (1970), The Third Wave (1980), and Powershift (1990). I don't recall anything really shocking about his work, but he did a lot to explain the change from his Second Wave (the industrial revolution) to the Third Wave (information age).
Our imagination is the only limit to what we can hope to have in the future. This is my prediction for the future - whatever hasn't happened will happen and no one will be safe from it. If a man carefully examines his thoughts he will be surprised to find how much he lives in the future. His well-being is always ahead. The empires of the future are the empires of the mind. Only the flexibly creative person can really manage the future, Only the one who can face novelty with confidence and without fear. The future is like heaven, everyone exalts it, but no one wants to go there now.
