Quotes of the Day for 26 September 2004 - Desire

The shortest double header in baseball history was played on this day in 1926. The New York Yankees were trounced 6-1 by the Saint Louis Browns in only 72 minutes, then were beaten again 6-2 in only 55 minutes. This was a pinstripe team with both Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth! Of course, these were the last two games of the regular season and New York had already clinched the pennant, so they really didn't care all that much.

We are told that talent creates its own opportunities. But it sometimes seems that intense desire creates not only its own opportunities, but its own talents.

Lord, grant that I may always desire more than I can accomplish.
     - Michelangelo Buonarroti, 1474 - 1564

Those who restrain desire do so because theirs is weak enough to be restrained.
     - William Blake, 1757 - 1827

     - Leo Nikolaevich Tolstoy, 1828 - 1910
