Quotes of the Day for 19 August 2004 - Bernard Baruch

Bernard M. Baruch was born at Camden, South Carolina on this day in 1870. He made his millions on Wall Street as a broker and investor. He resisted regulation of the investment industry but became chairman of the War Industries Board during World War I and represented the US at the Versailles Peace Conference. He advised every US president from Woodrow Wilson to John F. Kennedy, here are a few examples. He had a long, productive, and apparently happy life, mayhap some of this advice is worth listening to.

Do not blame anybody for your mistakes and failures.

Every man has a right to his opinion, but no man has a right to be wrong in his facts.

I was eleven, then I was sixteen. Though no honors came my way, those were the lovely years.

If you have made a mistake, cut your losses as quickly as possible.

Take the obvious, add a cupful of brains, a generous pinch of imagination, a bucketful of courage and daring, stir well and bring to a boil.

The art of living lies less in eliminating our troubles than in growing with them.
