Quotes of the Day for 8 July 2004 - Money

Do you have all the money you need? Yeah, I'm a bit short myself. But today's theme stems from the birthdays of two gents that didn't lack for cash. Both John D. Rockefeller and his grandson Nelson were born today (in 1839 at Richford, New York and 1908 at Bar Harbor, Maine respectively). If that's not enough reason, the Wall Street Journal was first published (four pages, two cents) on this day in 1885.

It is good to have money and the things that money can buy, but it's good too, to check up once in a while and make sure you haven't lost the things money can't buy.
     - George Lorimer, 1867 - 1937

I am an advocate of paper money, but that paper money must represent what it professes on its face. I do not wish to hold in my hands the printed lies of the government.
     - James A. Garfield, 1831 - 1881

I make money using my brains and lose money listening to my heart. But in the long run my books balance pretty well.
     - Kate Seredy, 1899 - 1975

Certainly there are things in life that money can't buy, but it's very funny: Did you ever try buying them without money?
     - Ogden Nash, 1902 - 1971

Most idealistic people are skint. I have discovered that people with money have no imagination, and people with imagination have no money.
     - Simone Weil, 1909 - 1943

Money is like manure. If you spread it around, it does a lot of good, but if you pile it up in one place, it stinks like hell.
     - Clint W. Murchison, 1895 - 1969
