Quotes of the Day for 22 June 2004 - Anne Morrow Lindbergh

Anne Morrow was born at Englewood, New Jersey on this day in 1906. Her father was a successful businessman and US Senator, her mother an educator and published poet. She married Charles Lindbergh in 1929, and was his copilot, navigator, and radio operator as they surveyed hundreds of new air routes - they flew together for over 100,000 miles when planes flew much more slowly than today. Their first child was kidnapped and killed in 1932. Out of this ambitious life Anne wrote 13 books, and as these quotes demonstrate, she saw and then wrote with clarity.

Men kick friendship around like a football, but it doesn't seem to crack. Women treat it like glass and it goes to pieces.

To give without any reward, or any notice, has a special quality of its own.

Lost time is like a run in a stocking. It always gets worse.
     - Ann Morrow Lindbergh, 1906 - 2001
