Issues Index | Next => I'm back home, at least for a couple of days. The last two days were devoted to friendship and wine. On Friday I drove to the Seattle home of a friend that I first met in kindergarten, 45 years ago. We proceeded to the Yakima area, to the home of a second friend that I met only a couple of years later. Saturday we tasted wine, visiting probably eight wineries in the Yakima Valley, all of which were delightful. I've acquired a dozen new bottles, some stunning and all of them inexpensive. A couple of days without e-mail was a small price to pay to renew valued friendships.

Wine is bottled poetry. Here's to a friend. He knows you well and likes you just the same. May we have more and more friends, and need them less and less. Pour deep the rosy wine and drink a toast with me; Here's to three: Thee, Wine, and Camaraderie! Forsake not an old friend, for the new is not comparable to him. A new friend
is as new wine: when it is old thou shalt drink it with pleasure.
