Issues Index | Next => On this day in 1765 the trustees of the College of Philadelphia created the first medical school in North America by naming John Morgan as Professor of the Theory and Practice of Physic. Morgan had graduated from that college eight years before, and other than two years serving the sick in the British Army had studied medicine in Europe with the goal of training doctors in the colonies.
