Issues Index | Next => As you know, sometimes the quotes are driven by the calendar, and other times by requests. When a string of nice easy themes pop up from the calendar, the requests pile up a bit, which leads to stress when I finally notice. Today I note that they are building up, including one request for quotes on Stress itself.
Training gives us an outlet for suppressed energies created by stress and thus tone the spirit just as exercise conditions the body. The happiest people I know are the ones who have learned how to hold everything loosely and have given the worrisome, stress-filled, fearful details of their lives into God's keeping. Every stress leaves an indelible scar, and the organism pays for its survival after a stressful situation by becoming a little older. Stress is basically a disconnection from the earth, a forgetting of the breath. Stress is an ignorant state. It believes that everything is an emergency. Nature tops the list of potent tranquilizers and stress reducers. The mere sound of moving water has been shown to lower blood pressure. Throw out an alarming alarm clock. If the ring is loud and strident, you're waking up to instant stress. You shouldn't be bullied out of bed, just reminded that it's time to start your day.
