In fact, despite knowing the risks and generally observing proper material handling procedures, I've adopted the old DuPont slogan "Better Living Through Chemistry" as something of a mantra. It had never occurred to me to look for quotes on the subject, but I actually had quite a few.
No, this trick won't work. How on earth are you ever going to explain in terms of chemistry and physics so important a biological phenomenon as first love? All theoretical chemistry is really physics; and all theoretical chemists know it. The chemistry of dissatisfaction is as the chemistry of some marvelously potent tar. In it are the building stones of explosives, stimulants, poisons, opiates, perfumes, and stenches. If you are obliged to neglect any thing, let it be your chemistry. It is the least useful and the least amusing to a country gentleman of all the ordinary branches of science. Nothing can be more incorrect than the assumption one sometimes meets with, that physics has one method, chemistry another, and biology a third. In the arts of life man invents nothing; but in the arts of death he outdoes Nature herself, and produces by chemistry and machinery all the slaughter of plague, pestilence, and famine.
