Issues Index | Next => Getting back to reader requests, one of our subscribers ran a half marathon last month and wanted quotes on running. Personally, I'm with Neil Armstrong and Satchel Paige on the subject. But I guess I'll get a little exercise picking out quotes on this exhausting subject.
Running for money doesn't make you run fast. It makes you run first. The lame man who keeps the right road outstrips the runner who takes a wrong one. Nay, it is obvious that the more active and swift the latter is the further he will go astray. I'm not running, and I'm not walking fast. I'm going where I need to be. The generations of living things pass in a short time, and like runners, hand on the torch of life. I believe that the Good Lord gave us a finite number of heartbeats and I'm damned if I'm going to use up mine running up and down a street. I don't generally like running. I believe in training by rising gently up and down from the bench.
