Issues Index | Next => When choosing Churchill quotes yesterday, I was surprised by the number of times he used the word "Never." The admonition "Never say never" always seemed good to me, but apparently not to that great orator. Out of curiosity, I searched the database for the term and came up with over 1200 matches! It took a little doing to get it down to this short selection, starting with the quote that aroused my curiosity.
Never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never; in nothing, great or small, large or petty; never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense. I never think of the future - it comes soon enough. There was never a genius without a tincture of madness. San Francisco isn't what it used to be, and it never was. Never complain. Never explain. Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting, but never hit soft. Men who never get carried away should be. There never was a child so lovely but his mother was glad to get him asleep.
