Issues Index | Next => In celebration of those blessings for which we give thanks, I am choosing one for each day of this week. We started with Wisdom, then Service. Tomorrow will be Home, Thursday, inevitably, will be Abundance. I'll follow that with Peace, and finally Love. Today's theme is Friendship. I am thankful for a few friends that have stuck with my for decades, many who are recent additions, and all of you who I know only through this daily sharing of quotes.
In poverty and other misfortunes of life, true friends are a sure refuge. The young they keep out of mischief; to the old they are a comfort and aid in their weakness, and those in the prime of life they incite to noble deeds. Trouble is a sieve through which we sift our acquaintances. Those too big to pass through are our friends. True friendship can afford true knowledge. It does not depend on darkness and ignorance. From quiet homes and first beginning, Treat your friends as you do your pictures, and place them in their best light. Friendship is like a sheltering tree.
