Quotes of the Day for 16 September 2003 - Black

Johnny Cash was laid to rest at Hendersonville, Tennessee yesterday, he passed away on Friday. In four decades Cash recorded 1,500 songs, appeared on 500 albums, won 11 Grammys, hit number one on the country charts 14 times, and was the first artist inducted in both the Country and Rock and Roll Music Halls of Fame (Elvis is the only other). He was deeply religious, battled substance abuse, and found great strength in his marriage which ended four months ago with the death of his wife. You could go on for pages about this powerful and complex man, I'll just pull out my best Black quotes for the Man in Black.

     - Philip Dunne and Joseph L. Mankiewicz, The Ghost and Mrs Muir (1947)

Black care rarely sits behind a rider whose pace is fast enough.
     - Theodore Roosevelt, 1858 - 1919

     - Auguste Renoir, 1841 - 1919

Black as hell, strong as death, sweet as love.
     - Turkish proverb

     - William A. Drake, Grand Hotel (1932)

Come, gentle night, come, loving, black-browed night.
Give me my Romeo, and when I shall die,
Take him and cut him out in little stars
And he will make the face of heaven so fine
That all the world will be in love with night,
And pay no worship to the garish sun.
     - William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet
