In honor of those who stand ready to help others on the high seas or in their communities, some quotations on help and rescue.
I'd rather be a woman than a man. Women can cry, they can wear cute clothes, and they're first to be rescued off sinking ships. Forget the times of your distress, but never forget what they taught you. The healthy, the strong individual, is the one who asks for help when he needs it. Whether he has an abscess on his knee or in his soul. Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. Heaven ne'er helps the man who will not act. Whoever destroys a single life is as guilty as though he had destroyed the entire world; and whoever rescues a single life earns as much merit as though he had rescued the entire world.
