Some things cannot be spoken or discovered until we have been stuck, incapacitated,
or blown off course for awhile. Plain sailing is pleasant, but you are
not going to explore many unknown realms that way. To reach a port, we must sail - sail, not tie at anchor - sail, not drift. No pessimist ever discovered the secrets of the stars, or sailed to an uncharted land, or opened a new heaven to the human spirit. The unknown is what it is. And to be frightened of it is what sends everybody scurrying around chasing dreams, illusions, wars, peace, love, hate, all that. Unknown is what it is. Accept that it's unknown, and it's plain sailing. I find the great thing in this world is not so much where we stand, as in what direction we are moving - we must sail sometimes with the wind and sometimes against it - but we must sail, and not drift, nor lie at anchor. And the sea shall grant all men new hope, as sleep brings dreams of home.
